Living by Your Own Rules — ebook cover
SOUNDS FAMILIAR?

You do everything right, and it's never quite enough

You're tired, but you don't know exactly why. You work, you try hard, you take everyone else's wants and needs into account, and somehow something still goes wrong.

You're unhappy, but you don't know what to change. Maybe you do know, but not how or where to start. Stuck between who you are and who you'd like to be. Between other people's expectations and your own wishes.

You're probably not even aware of it, but there are rules you're living by, unwritten, unspoken, picked up from someone else a long time ago. They may have made sense once. Not anymore. But no one ever questioned or changed them.

Those rules are quietly running your life, and keeping you stuck.

It's time to become aware of them, and change them.

The rules you live by should be written by YOU.

From burnout to freedom

For years I ran late and thought something was wrong with me. I was Director of Communications at a large corporation. I worked all day, chased deadlines, organized events, tried to keep up with everything, be liked by everyone, take on every task, and always be available. I believed that was professionalism, and the path to success.

I'd exhaust myself, then blame myself for not being “focused, motivated, capable enough.” Chaos in my head. Tension and stress in my body. On the edge of breaking on the inside, smiling on the outside. Frequent colds, a weakened immune system. I didn't know I was running straight toward complete burnout.

It was only when I stopped, left the corporation, and faced my own burnout, that I began to understand the problem wasn't me, it was the way I was thinking, living, and working.

I realized I had been living by other people's rules. In trying to keep up with everything and meet every expectation, I lost myself.

This guide is my gift to you, to help you become aware of whose rules and expectations you're living by, and set your own, before you burn out and lose yourself too.
